Around the Gulf Shores AL

Arrival and setup - GULF STATE  PARK.
This is a great park and our four days here went fast.
The park has hundreds of sites where many Canadians spend the winter.
The pool is new and huge.
The park view is towards the ocean with a fresh water lagoon surrounding the park.
Apparently the fishing is excellent in the lagoon.
A beautiful boardwalk leads to the shore.
What a shore!! Since the shore is not developed on the 4000ft in front of the park, the beach is all natural.
As you can tell, Chris loved this beach.
The state pier is the largest on the Gulf.
This is "hands down" the biggest and best fishing pier I've been on,
Hey Big Fellow - don't be so upset that an old fella with a bad back beat you in a race.
Maggie is trying on various Christmas outfits.
Guess who is following me!!
I"m buying some blue heron repellent.

Henderson Beach State Park, Destin FL

Wandering the state park beach in the evening.
Blue herons are everywhere and anywhere in the area.
For some reason, maybe my daily ration of a large cod liver oil capsule, blue herons have landed without warning close to my location. This must be one of the little known side effects of taking cod liver oil. I must check the packaging information.
The park sites are spacious.
Can't seem to find out what kind of caterpillar type creature this three inch species could be!
Oh well, each day we walk together and I don't have to feed it or put it on a leash.
Maggie is enjoying her new hair do and already has Christmas  lights in her room.
The boardwalk to the beach is a treat,

Sunsets from the boardwalk are almost as good as Dorcas Bay.
A wide variety of plants and wildlife are encountered on our strolls.
AH!! A beach landing.
A small theatre in the park was showing an interesting movie.
Everyone enjoys a "Love Story".
Walking trail.
Weather moves across the beach.
Retail Christmas is in the air.

FALL MATURES ON THE BAY

No crowds on Singing Sands beach today.
Ann battles the winds of November.
Green is still around this time of year.
Latest in scarfs for local livestock.
Our lakes are not very inviting this time of year.
Our tamaracks are displayed in "HD"during the fall.
Wetlands are quietly waiting for winter.
The otters like to make a surprise visit every fall.
Mornings can take on a "frosty coat".
When Dottie visits Maggie, it's difficult to get a window seat.
O YEA! A touch of snow.

FROST ON THE BRUCE

"Bruce" experienced the first frost of the fall.
Frosty morning in the backyard.
Wetland frost cover.

Evening view alongside the bridge.
Red sky at night - what a delight!

WET FALL

The Chi-Cheemaun has completed  the final crossing of the season.
Seemingly non-stop rain has filled the creeks and wetlands.
Areas of easy summer access are flooded.
The bridge building will now be completed in the spring of 2012.
Our nightly visitor, a blue heron, pauses from fishing to enjoy another evening with our beautiful
Dorcas Bay sunsets.
