STORMY WEATHER

The last few days on the Bruce Peninsula have been our introduction to the annual winter season. Actually we didn't experience nearly the level shown on the media that other parts of southern Ontario received. Roads blocked, schools closed and -14c temperatures can happen anytime six months of the year. This time we didn't even lose our power!!!
Rollin' surf at Lion's Head.
Georgian Bay weather.
Ice on Dorcas Bay
River otters in a local stream.
A good sign the storm is ending - creatures come out!
A beautiful mink travelling across our backyard.
Storm clouds across Dorcas Bay Road. Moving storm clouds heading off the Bruce.
Tobermory village is ready for the Holidays.

TOBERMORY "CROWSNEST" LOST

GOOD TIMES
With sadness we lost a Tobermory landmark overnight.
Thankfully no one was hurt and the fire had no effect on the adjoining buildings.

LET THE SUN SHINE.

For a number of years I have thought about a residential solar installation as a small step in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, the effects of global warming and my own technical interest in power generation. Well, here's our first step! Our solar cell array consists of 12 cells facing south atop our home in Dorcas Bay Tobermory.Today the final connections have been completed and we are on the Ontario Hydro grid (power lines). Our project is called a MicroFit Installation and we sell the power produced back to Ontario Hydro. The inside components such as the inverter (used to change DC, from the solar cells, to AC, for grid use) are mounted on the wall next to our residential electrical panel.Outside two meters monitor the power we use off the hydro supply (a normal use age meter) and a generator meter to monitor the amount of power our solar cells return to the grid ( local power lines). Our system was offered and installed by SUN VOLTS UNLIMITED. Their advisory and installation employees are, I feel, the "best in the business". SUN VOLTS UNLIMITED has been in wind and solar systems for a long time in a business that has few experienced retailers.
